Accessory Supplier Quality Engineer — Audio, Tech & Lighting
Job Description
ABOUT SLATE
At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Slate is seeking an energetic, organized, and experienced Accessory Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) — Audio, Tech & Lighting to join our growing team. This SQE will own all aspects of supplier quality and performance for Audio, Tech, and Lighting (ATL) accessory commodities, working closely with suppliers of in-cabin audio components, infotainment and connectivity accessories, exterior and interior lighting systems, and associated electrical harness interfaces. You’ll ensure our ATL accessories meet the highest standards of safety, durability, regulatory compliance, and integration with our electric platforms — on budget and on time.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO
In this role, the candidate will own supplier quality activities for ATL accessory commodities across the full product development lifecycle. Responsibilities include performing domestic and international supplier audits, administering the APQP process, and holding suppliers accountable to Slate’s Quality Requirements Manual. The SQE will develop and implement supplier KPI scorecards, drive corrective actions, and support PPAP submissions and validation for audio, tech, and lighting systems. Additional responsibilities include:
- Lead supplier quality development for ATL accessories including audio speakers and amplifiers, infotainment and connectivity modules, exterior and interior lighting assemblies, and electrical harness interfaces — ensuring functional integrity, dimensional precision, and long-term durability.
- Perform domestic and international supplier audits; administer the APQP process and hold ATL suppliers accountable to Slate’s Quality Requirements Manual.
- Support PPAP submissions and validation compliance for ATL system suppliers; evaluate suppliers for production awards and new source development.
- Develop and maintain supplier KPI scorecards; implement corrective actions to drive measurable improvement in quality, delivery, and responsiveness across the ATL supply base.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 3-Legged 5 Why) to resolve quality escapes and chronic issues across audio, tech, and lighting commodity suppliers.
- Partner with Engineering to support DFM/DFA reviews and GD&T assessments for ATL system mounting and vehicle integration interfaces.
- Track and report on dimensional, functional, and reliability quality issues for ATL programs; drive closure through DVP test results, issue management, and structured corrective action.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships; work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to support company objectives and core values.
| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- Four-year degree or higher in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems preferred), Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of Supplier Quality Engineering or development experience in automotive or consumer electronics, including audits, APQP, PPAP, and continuous improvement; start-up experience with EV accessories is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience with automotive-grade audio systems, exterior/interior lighting modules, infotainment/connectivity accessories, or associated electrical harnesses is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of supplier KPIs, scorecard development, and holding suppliers accountable for quality and delivery.
- Familiarity with automotive lighting regulatory requirements (FMVSS 108, SAE J578/J1455, ECE R48), EMC/EMI standards, and connector/harness IP ingress protection ratings for ATL assemblies.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and GD&T standards for ATL system mounting, fitment, and vehicle integration interfaces.
- Experience working with ERP systems to track supplier performance and part traceability.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- High level of integrity and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.

About Slate Auto
At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA.
We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots.
We like looking at a road, not a screen.
We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need.
We like picking out the stuff we do need.
We think dings are badges, not blemishes.
But we know not everyone likes what we like.
So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
