Hours:
Evening Shift: 130PM-10PM- Rotating weekends and Holidays
What you will do
- Phlebotomy - Outpatient
- Identify patient as per established procedures
- Review orders in the hospital information system and laboratory information system and release orders
- Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy following established procedures
- Correctly label specimens and verify patient identity
- Central Lab Services - Specimen Processing
- Assess specimen requirements and specimen integrity
- Triage, accession, process, and deliver specimens following established procedures
- Store specimens according to laboratory-specific storage directives as needed

- Interfacing with patients, laboratory staff, medical staff, medical courier, and vendors

- Call critical lab values to clinician
- Specimen handling
- Treat each specimen as a person
- Exhaust all options when problem-solving to avoid re-collection
- Equipment maintenance
- Maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, vortex, refrigerator, freezers)
- Limited messenger service as required
- Promptly delivers specimens or paperwork throughout the health care campus as required.
- Promptly activates and executes the pneumatic tube downtime procedures as required
- Is knowledgeable in the use of resources to identify transport temperatures for all specimens and ensure stability
- Scheduling
- Must be flexible in scheduling and cooperation in performing all assigned tasks
- Responsible for working rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Phlebotomy and Central Lab Services leadership team
Schedule:
- Mon-Fri - 1:30pm - 10:00pm
- The team shares weekend and holiday coverage on a rotational basis
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
- Technical Diploma Phlebotomy - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Scientific laboratory - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred or
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) - ASCP - The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred
