WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Southern Blue Ridge Conservation Coordinator provides administrative and logistical support, project and data management, and general assistance to program staff to achieve conservation goals, including land acquisition, restoration, stewardship, and science. The responsibilities of the Conservation Coordinator are as follows:

Office Management and Administration (70%): Provide general administrative support to Mountains Conservation Team, including the following:

  • Organize meetings, workshops, and team logistics
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and management
  • Track financial expenditures and budgets
  • Assist with contracting efforts and invoice processing
  • Purchasing supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Manage fleet vehicles, including maintenance, repairs, and mileage logs
  • Manage electronic files and databases
  • Prepare reports and presentations, including GIS data/maps
  • Manage mailing and shipping and general phone inquiries
  • Handle miscellaneous office tasks and errands.

Short-Term Hiring (15%): Assist staff in recruiting and hiring short-term employees (interns, seasonal staff, crew members) by assisting with job postings, onboarding and new hire paperwork.

Stewarding TNC's Landholdings (15%):

  • Coordinate and conduct field visits, oversee conservation easement reporting, and maintain project records
  • Collect, assemble and analyze data utilizing cameras, GPS, surveys, and ArcGIS
  • Synthesize information into narrative reports
  • Assist with real estate due diligence, including on site meetings, Environmental Assessments, and consultations with TNC attorneys,

Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.

This position is full-time and is based in Asheville, North Carolina and reports to the Southern Blue Ridge Program Director. Work is primarily in an office or home office setting but does involve some field work in outdoor settings and which includes some physical exertion. The Conservation Coordinator may sometimes work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program.

The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and organization skills and experience coordinating multiple tasks and/or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail. Candidates must be located in or near Asheville, North Carolina if hired, and will have the option to work at TNC's Asheville office, from their home office, or in a hybrid arrangement, subject to approval by the supervisor. This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience handling standard business communications.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability
  • 2-4 years related work experience
  • Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources
  • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files
  • Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production preferred
  • Experience using ArcGIS preferred
  • Ability to function productively as a member or leader of a work team
  • Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated

AUTO SAFETY POLICY

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.


SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $24.70 - $26.40 per hour for 35 hours a week. This is comparable to $45,000 - $48,000 per year. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
