Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Controls Engineer to join our team.   This position will support the Process Engineering team at the Clearfield Utah facility and SLC Copper Crossing Facility.  The selected candidate will support the Case Value Stream.
Responsibilities Include:

• Integrate equipment for robotics, PLC's, servo drives, and instrumentation.

• Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to control a variety of processes, machine tools, and robotics.  Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming experience preferred.

• Work with the Process Owner and Operation Personnel to test new/modified PLC/HMI programs prior to Implementation.

• Work with the process owner to optimize the control system with process improvements.

• Work with the Process Owner and Operation Personnel to test new/modified PLC/HMI programs prior to Implementation.

• Develop automated recipes to error proof the system and reduce operator variability for process specific parts.

• Integrate process data with Canary Historian / Thingworx / Kepware

• Provide Line Stoppage Support for PLC controlled processes.



• Program variable frequency drives (VFD) for all types of motor control applications.

• CNC machine troubleshooting and programming.

• Work with Maintenance, Operations, and other Engineers to troubleshoot.

• Work as a team with the Electrical Design / Controls Engineers on upgrades / new controls systems.

• Support various control systems on plant (e.g. presses, autoclaves, mixers)-involving troubleshooting, re-programming, adding software enhancements, etc. in support of Operations.

• Manage upgrades to process related computers.

• Implement secure network connections to manufacturing equipment.

• Work closely with Infrastructure

• Follow company software development lifecycle

• Contribute to programming standards and best practice

This position can be filled at either a level 01 or level 02.
Basic Qualifications for a level 01:
Position Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree

• Strong desire to work with control processes.

• PLC systems and programming experience.

• A desire to support and improve Manufacturing processes.

Basic Qualifications for a level 02:
Position Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree, plus 2+ years of experience in Controls Engineering.

• Strong desire to work with control processes.

• PLC systems and programming experience.

• A desire to support and improve Manufacturing processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Programming

• ThingWorx (JavaScript)

• LabView

• C#

• Ignition

• Allen Bradley Logix 5000 / Studio

• Allen Bradley FTVS HMI

• Beckhoff PLC

• Python

• FANUC robot programming

• FANUC executive software



• Hardware

• Excellent knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC platform(s)

• Knowledge of basic sensors, contactors, relays, VFD, Servo, etc...

• Knowledge of Beckhoff PLC platform(s)



• Networking skills

• VLAN

• Firewall rules

• Troubleshooting

Salary Range: $63,900.00 - $95,900.00Salary Range 2: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
