Description
This is a great opportunity to complement the US Eye Health team of medical affairs, clinical development and early asset therapeutic area team leader. The Eye Health Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be member of the US medical therapeutic area leadership team and will be responsible to hire and establish/build a team of MSLs for an exciting and growing pipeline. This role oversees the Eye Health MSL team, through the development and execution of field plans, resulting in demonstrable outcomes and will give input to the US medical Eye Health Strategy. This role will work in close collaboration with MSL Directors in the other TAs.to drive success and innovation, ongoing process improvements, challenging inefficiencies and recommending new approaches to maximize results, leveraging the understanding of the changing health care landscape and organizational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
Collaboration:
- Ensure seamless collaboration and communication across regions, within Medicine, and across the broader organization.
- In partnership with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs Strategy Team Leads, contribute to the development and communication of medical strategies, field-based medicine tactics, and insight generation.
- Establish and foster collaboration between MSL Sr ADs, TA Leadership, Commercial Leadership, and peer MSL Directors & Medical Customer Engagement Strategy Leads.
- Collaborate with TA and Medical Customer Engagement Strategy Leads to define and assess accountabilitiesand support boundaries for collaborative and compliant communications by the MSL team.
- Foster compliant collaboration with Commercial personnel.
Coaching and Development:
- Foster a performance-based culture with clear accountability. Oversee MSL Sr ADs in implementing a consistent approach to managing, developing, and coaching MSLs.
- Foster an environment that promotes urgency, smart decision making, and flexibility.
- Ensure MSL teams comply with boundaries for collaborative and compliant communications.
- Ensure MSL Teams document scientific exchange/ insights within the CRM.
- - Communicate with relevant internal stakeholders to understand performance against expectations, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform the performance management framework.
- Ensure robust and appropriate new hire on-board training, and the implementation of required training for scientific and functional competencies.
Planning and Implementation:
- Oversee the planning, development, and execution of tactical engagement plans, in collaboration with TA Leads, Medical Customer Engagement Strategy Leads and MSL Sr AD.
- Oversee identification and prioritization of expert customers lists via the standardized customer identification and prioritization process for all MSL teams.
- Working with the internal TA team (Medical Strategies, etc.) ensure scientific materials are developed in a timely manner to enable MSLs to engage customers to meet the goals defined in the medical strategy.
- In partnership with peer MSL Directors, ensure functional and TA goals are met nationally.
- In partnership with Medical Excellence and the TA VP, optimize processes across all FBM teams, challenge process inefficiencies, developing new approaches and solutions.
- Ensure appropriate and compliance use of systems by MSLs.
- Oversee annual planning, updates, and execution of scientific support for internal stakeholders (Medicine, Clinical, and Commercial).
- Develop, in collaboration with TA Leads, and oversee MSL budget
Insight Generation and Reporting:
- Lead TA MSL teams by overseeing and optimizing the insight generation process and impact.
- Drive insight quality and analysis for timely actionable reports.
- Ensure timely communication of insights across the organization.
Requirements
- BSc. required, and in addition fulfill one of the following education levels and experience criteria:
- Advanced science / clinical degree (PharmD, M.D., DO, Ph.D.) with 5 or more years'of relevant clinical or therapeutic experience (preferred), or
- Masters level degree in health sciences with 7 or more years' of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience, or
- Combined BSc. with a MBA, or BSN with a MBA, and 10 or more years' of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience, or
- A PA with 7 or more years' of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience.
- Other Medically qualified licensure(e.g. RPh, Respiratory Therapist)with 13 or more years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience.
- 10 or more years' of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry:
- 5 or more years' leading field based medical teams within a pharmaceutical organization - required.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing field based teams in a pharmaceutical organization- preferred.
- 5 or more years' relevant medical affairs / MSL experience - required.
- Demonstrated experience leading MSLs or other externally focused field-based teams - required
- Proven track record of teamwork, leadership, timely decision making and results orientation in meeting business objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of health care systems in the U.S., including managed care organizations, IDNs, PBMs, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Ability to use field-based electronic or other communication tools for all aspects of job.
- Prior experience working across multiple therapeutic areas (preferred).
- This position will be field based and will require travel of upwards of 50%

- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $200,000 and $316,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits, please click here.
