Our Technology team has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.


About the Location

Hybrid Position:

This position is located in Phoenix, Arizona at PetSmart's corporate office and may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.


About the Job

This job is responsible for leading and managing a team of managers and software engineers who create and maintain the systems and capabilities of our web and mobile applications supporting eCommerce. It ensures that our applications are consistent, scalable, and performing across different browsers and devices. It also collaborates with other teams such as design and product to deliver high-quality user experiences that meet the business goals and user needs. It is also responsible for vendor management and implementation of automation, tools and development best practices within their organization.

  • Technology: Defines and implements modern architecture and best practices for web and mobile software applications. (API, .NET, NODE, Microservices, Systems Integrations) Establishes and enforces code quality standards, code reviews, testing, and documentation. Works closely with the product team to understand the requirements, scope, and timelines of the projects. Researches and evaluates new technologies and tools to improve application performance and user experience.
  • Leadership: Manages and mentors a team of managers and software developers, providing feedback, guidance, and career development. Supplies operational support and drives execution of enterprise information management systems and interfaces through others. Ensures that team and structure is in place to triage and resolve customer issues or system issues that prevent normal operations. Effectively communicates and aligns with business leadership and other cross functional technology teams.
  • Vendor relationships: Builds effective relationships with outside vendors for support and maintenance resolution of problems and operational issues. Oversees strategic vendor outsourcing relationships responsible for delivering most technology engagements. Develops and drives adoption of more effective ways of working with our strategic partners. Creates and governs relationships to ensure enterprise maturity and cost management objectives are met.
  • Execution improvements: Drives improvements and execution of the business by continually maturing the incident management process and standardizing practices across the organization. Supports deployments and changes to ensure compliance and regular operational activities. Identifies recurring problems and opportunities to improve system performance and availability and works with the appropriate IT teams to prioritize resolution. Records and improves KPIs that measure efficiency and productivity of the organization. Manages budgeting and forecasting.
  • Automation, Platform, Tools and Development: Enhances operation practices through creating processes and ensure alignment around common systems used to operate and manage the company’s technology. Broadly influences the software delivery and support process for the Company. Develops strategy and direction for foundational automation and drive enterprise adoption. Implements capabilities around automation to materially reduce manual labor for company's associates. Ensures that new applications and major enhancements smoothly transition to production following a consistent process.

Requires 10+ Years Enterprise Systems Experience

Proven experience leading eCommerce delivery teams

Experience with API, .NET, NODE, Microservices, Systems Integrations, QA, Automation
