Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Summary

Vulcan Industries is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to lead the company in increased safety awareness and discipline and maintain our outstanding safety record. The Safety Coordinator will lead all safety & environmental efforts which include conducting inspections and audits and recognizing hazards. Preparing solutions to environmental or safety concerns.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain and conduct all employee safety training.
  • Conduct inspections and audits and recognize hazards.
  • Coordinate and track audit program.
  • Keeps records of programs as required by law and internal procedures.
  • Train and monitor use of LOTO.
  • Coordinates and conducts training for safety and health matters and accident prevention, as well as incident investigations when needed.
  • Provide monthly safety & environmental data reports.
  • Participates in and leads emergency responses and addresses employee Environmental, Health and Safety concerns.
  • Develop a system for tracking and maintaining "near misses" and other safety violations.
  • Lead safety committee and conduct monthly meetings.
  • Keep "safety talks" available and current.
  • Documents programs by writing, revising and maintaining work instructions, procedures and visual aids.
  • Support production and operations by being present on the floor and monitoring daily activities.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.

SKILLS

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years in safety lead role.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Diligence in identifying safety/environmental deficiencies and root causes.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent Excel skills and ability to create sophisticated spreadsheets.
  • Speak confidently and clearly in front of an audience.
  • Strategic thinker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Science/Engineering, Industrial Safety or similar area of study, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year in an environmental lead role.

Working Conditions

  • Inside, plant environment. Not climate controlled. Walking & standing for long periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer
  • Varying shift schedules include early morning & evenings.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged walking, standing.
