ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE FIELD SPECIALIST (Metro West/Southwest Region

This position will be "Office-Based" in the Metro West/Southwest region. You will have a GA Power office location, mutually agreed upon by the hiring manager and successful, new team member.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Field Specialist will serve as a support resource for Georgia Power to ensure we’re meeting our compliance obligations today and preparing for our needs of the future.  

This position will focus on our environmental compliance programs and will support overall governance and be responsible for communications, implementation of programs and technologies (Enablon), training, mitigations, guidance, and other functions as needed. 

This position is will primarily serve the Metro West/Southwest Region.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • BS or BA degree in science related field (i.e., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Management, Engineering. etc.) or related field or equivalent work-related experience highly preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas required:
    • Environmental compliance, environmental project management within the medias (Air, Land, Water, Waste, and/or CCR), power generation, transmission and/or distribution operations, emergency response and planning, compliance with regulatory statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Commitment to business and personal ethics
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence.
  • Strong judgement and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve regulatory and compliance issues and implement solutions in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Experience coordinating, planning, and/or delivering training, communications and/or guidance on new or existing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to be proficient and utilize various technologies and/or database systems such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Enablon, etc. and deliver reports/ metrics.
  • Demonstrate commitment to achieving excellence in safety and promoting health and wellness.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple assignments with competing deadlines in an effective manner
  • Ability to work independently and in an organized manner without direct supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and travel across the state.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal customers and peers to ensure environmental policy and procedure understanding as well as active compliance is consistently executed across GPC facilities
  • Provide training and support for our Environmental Management System (EMS) & Environmental Management Information System (EMIS), Enablon, including serving as an EXPERT user for the compliance technology tool (Enablon)
  • Identify and communicate best practices for continuous improvement and sharing purposes as appropriate with other field specialists           
  • Serve as facilitator between sites and environmental medias as needed
  • Lead new site pilots and support throughout site adoption process of the EMIS and maintain proficiency in all EMS/EMIS aspects to serve as a resource and EXPERT user.
  • Provide both new risk identification and continuous improvement loops through informal programmatic reviews of internal process and procedures such as program reviews 
  • Be able to obtain and/or maintain certifications (waste (DOT (full), RCRA and HAZWOPER, etc.) as assigned
  • Be a credible and knowledgeable spokesperson on issues, products, and operations involving Environmental Affairs, Georgia Power and/or Southern Company in internal and external settings. 
  • Serve as primary support contact in a defined region and backup other field specialists as needed.

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle.  The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license). 
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
