General Description of the Job Class
This position is responsible for the management and coordination of the operational budget for Duke University Hospital as well as analyzing the income statement on a monthly basis. The position will be required to understand the many facets of the operations in order to effectively analyze the numbers. Position is also responsible for overall supervision of financial analysts within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
- Responsible for managing all aspects of the Duke University Hospital operating budget, including the preparation of the annual fixed budget, updating periodic forecasts, and updating the long-range strategic plan.
- Directly supervise two financial analysts and assist with training and development of other financial analysts within the department with respect to budget preparation and monthly results.
- Manage consolidated monthly reporting for Duke University Hospital, including flash financial statement, general ledger variance analysis, and statistics.
- Serve as the Finance Manager for the Solid Organ Transplant service line, providing a full range of financial support to assist in the preparation and analysis of financial reports.
- Prepare and review monthly analysis of the income statement, including actual to budget review. Understand underlying transactions on income statement and investigate areas for improvement.
- Assist in preparation of presentations for leadership, as needed.
- Assist in compiling and analyzing key performance indicators for the entity in relation to comparable organizations and annual targets.
- Complete and review various financial and statistical surveys.
- Coordination of adhoc analysis and reporting.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
BA/BS in Business, Economics, Accounting or related business field. CPA is desirable.
Experience
This position requires three years or more of experience in financial accounting and reporting. Preferred six years experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, generally accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
MBA, MHA or Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
