FORECASTING ANALYST
The Southern Company Services Forecasting Analyst develops and communicates the results and implications of the energy and peak demand forecasts for the electric utilities of the Southern Company. The analyst develops and maintains relationships with internal clients and peers to effectively fulfill the deliverables. Responsibilities are to be an expert of electricity sales, revenue, and peak demand modeling to support the electric utility forecasting requirements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and communicate the energy, peak demand, and revenue forecasts for Southern Company’s electric utility operating companies.
- Regularly improve and enhance company understanding of energy usage trends and their impact on energy demands and company strategies.
- Develop expertise in the regional economies within Southern Company's electric utility service area by engaging in economic monitoring and analysis.
- Prepare and present results of the forecast and related projects to the operating company representatives.
- Variance reporting and support.
- Provide expert consulting services to the users (clients) of the forecast.
- Fulfill regulatory requirements to support Integrated Resource Plans and rate case filings and PSC / intervener information requests.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, peers, and managers.
- Perform special projects and assignments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree required – B.A./B.S. strongly preferred in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Statistics, Decision Sciences or Mathematics. Master degree or graduate degree in a complementary field is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in forecasting
- Experience in forecasting or quantitative analysis in the energy or comparable industry is preferred. Position level is commensurate with experience.
- Firm understanding of market conditions/issues/trends as they relate to electricity sales and demand forecasting.
- Must have strong quantitative, data/financial modeling, analytical, technical, organizational, project management, presentation, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office products, Eviews, SAS, or other programming applications used in forecasting and data analytics.
- Ability to identify issues, recognize problems and opportunities, and to develop strategies to resolve problems and capitalize on opportunities.
- Able to manage stress and balance multiple priorities while producing high quality work under tight deadlines
