Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Business Partner, the Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in delivering HR programs, initiatives and services that align with Berklee’s strategic goals. This role partners closely with HR colleagues across employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation, HRIS, and benefits teams to support recruitment, general employee relations, organizational/professional development, compensation, and policy interpretation. Additionally, the HR Generalist will play an integral role in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including FLSA and ADA, by supporting policy implementation, conducting audits, and developing processes that mitigate risk and uphold the institutional and legal standards.
In collaboration with HR Partners, the Human Resources Generalist supports the delivery of programs and services focused on employee relations, organizational and professional development, and employee engagement within assigned areas. This role serves as the primary point of contact for staff and faculty on general HR inquiries, including policy-related questions, while escalating more complex matters to the HR Business Partner, as needed.
Assist hiring managers with job postings, including updating job descriptions and providing guidance on Workday recruiting tasks in consultation with the Talent Acquisition team.
Manage and facilitate requests for temporary staff and assist with temporary offers of employment, including compensation recommendations.
Prepare letters for staff promotions, transfers and other employment actions as needed.
Approve and process employee changes in Workday, including internal applications, data updates and terminations.
Provide backup support with facilitating bi-weekly new hire orientation.
Launch six-month provisionary assessments for all new employees.
Oversee annual performance appraisal compliance for assigned areas in partnership with HR Business Partners. Provide guidance to staff on the Workday appraisal process and share progress updates to AVP of Human Resources/HR Business Partner team.
Conduct regular HCM audits to ensure HCM data integrity for assigned areas including accurate employee data, headcount reporting, and vacancy management within Workday.
Conduct exit interviews and manage the offboarding process. Identify and analyze trends and provide recommendations to HR Senior Leadership (SLT) for continuous improvement. Report insights quarterly.
Assist with accommodation requests under the ADA, working closely with the HR Business Partners for guidance and oversight.
Provide backup support to the HR Coordinator responsibilities, including new hire onboarding, especially during peak periods (i.e. summer programs, start of semester) and assist with Berklee’s background recheck process, including communications and tracking compliance.
Respond to requests related to unemployment claims and other HR inquires.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience required.
3-5 years of professional Human Resources experience , preferably in a generalist role.
Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Takes initiative and has the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team; uses a structured approach to prioritize tasks in an environment that can be fast-paced and ambiguous .
Quick learner with a data-driven mindset, able to analyze information and apply insights to support Berklee priorities and employee satisfaction initiatives.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Mac systems and Workdayis a plus.
Ability to manage multiple detail-oriented tasks simultaneously and work within tight deadlines.
Self-motivated professional who is passionate about developing HR skills and leveraging those skills to deliver exceptional service to all with whom they interact.
