National Grid is hiring a Lead Representative (Field Safety), Health, Safety and Wellbeing for Waltham, Massachusetts.

Job Purpose

As a Senior Safety Specialist, within T&D Electric Ops, Safety, Culture and Development team to support National Grid and its partners, you will work to strengthen the Company's overall safety culture and ensure compliance by monitoring National Grid's safety programs to our Internal and Contracted workforce supporting our Major Projects and Construction departments. You will work closely with field personnel to develop positive professional relationships with all levels of management and contractors during all phases of assigned projects. This is a field position encompassing worksites throughout the New England Service Territory and will require weekly travel to work sites. This position supports our electric and operational support businesses and the delivery of National Grid's goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop positive, professional relationships with contractors, internal field personnel, and leadership to ensure cross collaboration.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with N-1402 Contractor Safety Requirements, including worker qualifications, on-boarding, utilization of Personal Protective Equipment ("PPE"), Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA"), and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ("FMCSA") requirements.
  • Understanding of project scopes and workplans to gauge safety-related risks and hazards to effectively prioritize field visits.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for all projects pre-job review, walk-through, and planning, supporting construction supervisors.
  • Participate or lead Risk Assessment and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Review contractor Health and Safety Plans and suggest improvements before project kickoff.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Incident Analyses (IA) in partnership with NE Electric Transmission, Substation, Distribution Line, and Civil Construction and NE Major Projects.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, damage to property or other safety related concerns, reviewing the contractor incident investigation.
  • Communicate safety and health information at employee and contractor meetings.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance, KPIs and metrics associated with each project.
  • Back up other Safety Specialists who are on vacation or leave, or in other situations where an onsite safety presence is necessary.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years' experience in constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution and transmission systems above or below ground, electrical operating procedures, and environmental policies is required.
  • A minimum 7-10 years of progressive safety oversight preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable equipment, standards, and practices applicable to Transmission and Substation construction work required.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Association ("FAA") regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of all related OSHA regulations required.
  • CUSP/CHST certification preferred or willingness to achieve certification.
  • Excellent public speaking, training, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly make decisions without having all the information and with little to no outside guidance.
  • Strong organization and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to compile and analyze project data to monitor performance, recognize trends, and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to reference, understand, apply, and adhere to contract documents.
  • Must be self-starter with a strong work ethic, desire to learn and develop, and ability to set and follow a daily/weekly schedule.
  • Computer and technology proficiency.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record is required.

Salary - $122,000 - $143,000
