The American Red Cross Office of General Counsel is seeking an experienced attorney to handle dispute resolution and litigation. This attorney will also advise on regulatory issues, legal risk, and risk mitigation in a wide variety of areas of law, including FD&C Act, antitrust, insurance, bankruptcy, contracts, torts, and more. The successful candidate will be nimble, endlessly curious, and embrace opportunities to tackle new and different challenges on a regular basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation attorney who wishes to join a dynamic in-house team, expand their horizons beyond litigation, and contribute to the humanitarian mission of one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations. The attorney will report to the Chief Counsel for Mission Services.
- Serve as subject matter expert on dispute resolution and litigation (Labor/Employment)
- Proactively address legal disputes to resolve them without litigation.
- Manage litigation (including selecting and directing the work of outside counsel, driving case strategy, partnering with outside counsel to draft and edit pleadings and briefs and conduct discovery, handling subpoenas, and participating in mediations and settlement negotiations)
- Develop and implement strategies to address litigation and regulatory risk.
- Participate on cross functional teams to develop and implement programs.
- Research and analyze complex legal issues on a wide range of topics with specific focus on Labor & Employment.
- Provide in-house training on legal compliance issues
- Conduct investigations
Individual contributor with comprehensive knowledge in specific area. Ability to execute highly complex or specialized projects. Use creative approaches to develop solutions.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from accredited law school
- License to practice and in good standing in a U.S. state bar
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, including at least 5 years as a litigation attorney in a law firm
- Extensive knowledge of litigation practice
- Demonstrated commitment to cross-functional collaboration
- Excellent research, writing, analysis, and time management skills
- Nimble, curious, and a fast learner, with exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
*Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
The work location is 100% remote with attendance at occasional meetings in DC will be required.
The salary range for this position is $135,000- $160,000
Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
