The selected candidate will be responsible for the functional management of the software engineering personnel under the NGAS Research & Advanced Design (R&AD) and Common Products Software Department.
The selected candidate will solve difficult programs while demonstrating professionalism and leading by example. Will build or maintain diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members. Will have knowledge and understanding of standard NGAS software engineering processes. Will have time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities. This position will be in El Segundo, CA.
Duties Include:
• Conducting performance assessments, staffing, employee development, communication meetings, disciplinary actions, compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/ approval, and other routine personnel issues.
• Responsible for establishing common processes and practices in cooperation with colleague managers across the sector.
• Develop requirements and negotiate with the customer where needed; develop designs and software in a team environment; and be able to provide technical guidance for junior engineers, provide leadership integrating software in a laboratory environment, and able to develop the complete documentation set required for the software life cycle.
• This role will work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency.
• Ability to track both the quality and timeliness of the organization's products, and identification and remediation of potential issues before they become problems.
• Develop and manage detailed budgets and schedules and make work assignments for indirect tasking.
• All candidates must have a current and continuing full-time program assignment; this position is allocated for 15% of the successful candidate's time, which fluctuates during the year due to business needs and the performance management cycle.
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 9 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development, OR a Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 7 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development.
• Current DOD Secret Clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years.
• Experience with software design for autonomous unmanned vehicles (either real time embedded software or command and control interface).
• Experience with leading or working in Agile teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 7 years of related professional experience that includes a background in software development.
• Current DOD Top Secret Clearance.
• Current program access.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and the software development lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, development, documentation, testing, and deployment.
• An understanding of both software and hardware concepts to support requirements, architecture, design, development, integration, and test.
• Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts.
Familiarity with DevOps concepts, technologies, and best practices.
• Prior experience in engineering management or technical leadership or mentoring.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders.
• Familiar with standards as UCI/OMS.
Salary Range: $151,900 - $227,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
