We’re seeking an exceptional talented physician leader who has the experience and ability to work with providers and medical organizations and support them as they approach healthcare delivery differently.

In partnership with provider organizations, the Medical Director, Value-Based Care / Population Health will utilize key principles of integrated and person-centered care to identify changes that will positively impact patient care while managing costs. This role will help identify opportunities for systemic change and work closely with your team to support its successful implementation. The Medical Director will help build and operationalize our strategy to ensure that our networks are delivering value-based care which ultimately will improve healthcare outcomes for our members.

This role reports to our Chief Medical Officer and is a key clinical voice within the organization. Working closely with internal and external partners, this role will champion the core elements of value-based care, help teams apply an appropriate lens to the work they perform, and reinforce successful win-win solutions within our overall network. Ultimately, this role will be a key player in Premera’s continued evolution towards achieving sustainable managed care.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to lead the design, implementation, and adoption of strategic Population Health initiatives focused on improving health outcomes and reducing the cost of care; Work closely with our providers to implement initiatives.
  • Use data to identify areas for potential improvements; Collaborate cross-functionally to lead the design, implementation, and adoption of Population Health initiatives that will maintain or improve health outcomes, reducing the cost of care.
  • Work closely with providers to identify pain points and opportunities for improvements; Work closely with providers to build acceptance for proposed solutions and support implementation efforts.
  • Identify internal opportunities to build/evolve our value-based care mindset; Work closely with internal teams to examine and update policies, procedures, and practices to continue our evolution towards managed care.
  • Reinforce the value-based care mindset internally; Review and update policies, procedures and practices to ensure alignment to value-based care principles; Support efforts designed to continue our evolution towards managed care.
  • Lead the provider performance improvement teams and ensure that they are focused and successful in supporting priority initiatives that positively impact our network of providers.
  • Lead the provider performance improvement teams and ensure credibility with external stakeholders; Prioritize key initiatives and build internal and external support for them.
  • Build credibility within the organization and healthcare community to ensure successful partnership and recognition as a thought leader; Position Premera as a win-win solutions provider within the provider community.

What you will bring:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution. Current, unrestricted medical or administrative license. (required)
  • (required)
  • 5 years of experience in clinical practice (required)
  • Experience in a managed care environment – either with a health plan or medical group.
  • Experience with identifying and leveraging win-win solutions with providers that result in meaningful patient/ member outcomes.
  • Experience in consulting and helping healthcare organizations and improving patient/ member outcomes
  • Experience with total cost of care management, disease Management, Quality Management, and Pharmacy Management.
  • If not currently licensed, can obtain an unrestricted medical or administrative license within 90 days of hire.
