Who will you be working with?

The Production Support Engineering team is responsible for the communication and maintenance of engineering information to the factory, suppliers, and contracted labor. This includes consulting on manufacturing processes, engineering deviation approval, drawing and bill of material maintenance, supplier consultation with respect to design intent and manufacturing clarification, and support of build issue root causing and resolution.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Production Support Engineering team, your tasks and deliverables will include:

  • Working with NPI (New Product Introduction) and manufacturing teams at the Fort Worth, Texas site to capture and investigate issues identified during prototype ‘rabbit’ locomotive development and near-term production (units 2-5).

  • Researching issues using available computer systems, 3D model interrogation, drawing retrieval system, etc. Contacting appropriate engineer/team members to verify root cause and solution and escalate as required.

  • Maintaining relationships w/ design engineers and product definition group with emphasis on effective communication utilizing all tools available (modulate based on need to include email, telecon, video call, VR, etc.).

  • Communicating findings and possible resolution to responsible Design Engineers and then track same to closure through use of Process Change Request (PCR) module in Reliance.

  • Attending tollgate design review meetings, eCollab sessions, and First Article Inspections as production support engineering reviewer and complete all actions assigned during review by due dates.

  • Compiling and distribution of weekly reports to team members as required.

What do we want to know about you?

  • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)

  • Minimum 5 years experience

  • 6 Sigma Greenbelt

  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001

  • Experience in a Quality role preferred

  • Prior experience as a Production Support Engineer highly preferred

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Demonstration of soft skills (e.g. effective communication, listening, etc.)

What will your typical day look like? (NOTE: Position is a minimum of 40 hrs/week in the plant. Remote work not allowed due to the in-person support nature of the role).

  • Walking the shop floor to get feedback from Operations personnel on build status and issues

  • Root causing issues and providing solutions using available tools and software (DRS, NX, Teamcenter, Reliance, etc.)

  • Documenting issues in Reliance as Production Change Requests (PCRs)

  • Interfacing with Design Engineers on PCRs

  • Organizing and leading issues meetings with cross-functional stakeholders as needed

  • Verifying implemented solutions resolve issues

  • Attending various meetings and reviews as required to add value to the customer

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Physical demands include standing, walking, squatting, climbing, reaching, lifting and carrying (up to 50lbs).

  • PPE must be worn to protect against environmental conditions including noise, vibration, dirt & grease, airborne pollutants, slippery surfaces, and potential impacts to face by flying objects or feet by falling objects.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
