Description

Performing Salmonella, Mycoplasma and ,extraneous pathogens testing, hemagglutination testing, and potency/identity Testing of TS-11 final products to ensure product meets government regulated titer standards. Includes following all departmental standard operating procedures and standard methods for performing Quality Control assays, safety, testing documentation, and cleaning records. Perform other assays in the QC department including growth promotion, bio burden (coccidiosis and blood), environmental monitoring, support for coccidiosis testing, bulk sterility and diluent sterility testing. Assist other technicians including Mycoplasma testing, Raw Materials testing, Extraneous Pathogens testing, glassware preparation, etc.As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of our products to our patients and customers. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lab Tech will be validated and qualified to perform Salmonella and other extraneous pathogens testing, hem agglutination and potency/identity testing of TS-11 final products. Also includes: validation of new controls. The testing results are watched for trends which include controls used with testing. Participation in the investigations of out of spec results is also required.
  • Assist with other extraneous virus testing and bacterial as needed. This includes but is not limited to: growth promotion, bio burden (cocci and blood), environmental monitoring, support for coccidiosis testing, bulk and diluent sterility, and support for coccidiosis testing. This involves preparing test samples, documentation of results to comply with regulations, and entry of results into LIMS. Also includes monitoring of testing for trends and reporting any testing abnormalities to management.
  • Assist in the preparation of test eggs for use in lab tests. This includes obtaining eggs for use (may require lifting), racking and candling of eggs. Daily candling of test eggs and recording findings. Monitoring associated lab equipment temperatures or conditions and documentation of readings.
  • Backup technician for other government regulated testing including but not limited to Mycoplasma, Raw materials, and Extraneous Pathogens testing. Also is backup technician for glassware prep, media prep, etc. Includes following standard operating procedures for all testing and safety procedures as well as following the same guidelines as the primary technician for all aspects of the testing, and entering of testing results into the LIMS system, and notification to management of any problems in testing. Also may be required to run testing in the validation of new testing controls and assist in times of high work load. Required good communications skills and willingness and ability to work in a team environment. Responsible for following all standard operating procedures and quality assurance requirements
  • Some Holiday and weekend coverage required
  • Other requirements include: scheduling of testing, the ability to follow all standard working procedures and departmental and company regulations, USDA guidelines and properly perform testing according to government regulations, proper good laboratory record keeping, monitoring of samples during the testing, and proper documentation followed throughout the testing period. Entry of testing results into the LIMS system. Notification to management of any problems in testing and includes notification to other departments of test results. Responsible for wearing proper personnel protective equipment. Proper cleaning of the test areas or equipment following Quality Control guidelines and documentation of cleaning on appropriate cleaning records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Technical education from an accredited institution in Science related field
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Science or related field preferred
  • Two to three (2-3) years of laboratory experience in a biologics industry or related field
  • Previous QC Biologics Lab experience preferred
  • Understanding of compliance, QC testing and QC processes.
  • Ability to lift and carry dewar for 50ft, able to lift egg turning trays and egg boxes.
  • Must be able to squat, bend, and stoop, as well as twisting and turning.
  • Ability to sit at microscope station for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity are important.
  • This position requires working some holidays and weekends along with flexible shift hours.
  • Regular attendance is required to assure continuance of operations.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Ability to properly use standard microscopes.
  • Basic computer skills, detail orientated with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records, good communication skills with the ability to write and follow written procedures precisely.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Able to make independent decisions, requires minimal supervision for day to day responsibilities, and work with supervision on special projects.
  • Willingness to learn underlying concepts of the position and apply knowledge in everyday procedures.
