How you will contribute to LifeNet Healths success:
The Tissue Recovery Surgical Specialist is responsible for the sterile surgical recovery of clinical and research tissues, organs, and samples. They perform all aspects of donor identification, assessment, and surgical preparation, as well as the post-recovery reconstruction and operative site restoration. They work collaboratively with other team members to ensure accurate, quality, and efficient outcomes of the surgical processes ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and industry standards and regulations. They are responsible for maintaining their surgical recovery skills and will participate in training others.
Important: This role requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. for the duration of the shift; as well as wear personal protective equipment to include surgical gowns, masks, visors or goggles, and caps.
This role is critical to the LifeNet Health mission because it is an important step in taking the donors gifts and transitioning them to lifesaving and health restoring allografts for patients around the globe.
What youll do:
- Preoperative & Postoperative Duties: Able to perform all duties and responsibilities of the Tissue Recovery Surgical Technician. Prepares recovery related supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for the authorized donation event. Evaluates recovery site suitability and ensures all pre- and post-recovery cleaning, set-up, and break-down events are performed according to site requirements and established company policies and procedures. Participates in the time out donor identification and authorization verification processes. Collects required testing samples prior to and during recovery, ensuring proper labeling of the collected samples. Assists with the completion and documentation of the donor Physical Assessment. Responsible for the post-operative donor care, including reconstruction, body identification, managing personal property, and preparation for transport. May participate in minimal charting.
- Tissue Recovery: Performs the donor body positioning, surgical preparation, and sterile recovery field draping prior to recovery and as the recovery event progresses. Perform sterile hand preparation (scrub) and don aseptic gown and gloves. Performs the surgical recovery of tissues for transplant, whole organs and basic tissues for research, and associated samples for testing purposes. May function as a Trainer/Preceptor during tissue recovery cases for learners initiating their dissection training.
- Post-Recovery and Support: Responsible for the preparation of recovered tissues and samples for shipment to the various processing and quarantine storage locations and environments. Responsible for supply, equipment, and instrument inventory, including rotation, count, ordering, receiving, and inspection. Assists with maintaining the Tissue Recovery dedicated spaces, including inspection, cleaning, organizing, and documentation. Assists with maintaining tissue, organ, and sample inventory, control, monitoring, and documentation. Assists with managing the fleet vehicles as assigned.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement: Ensures quality outcomes of all work performed. Assists with the monitoring, development, and reporting of KPI and departmental metrics. Assists with completion of the Zone Assessment Guide and other audit readiness activities. Participates in departmental and organizational LEAN projects and initiatives. Other duties as assigned.
What youll bring (Minimum Requirements):
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid State Drivers License
- 1 year of work experience in Tissue Recovery, Operating Room Tech, Scrub/Surgical Tech, EMT or Paramedic, Mortician or Embalmer, Pathology Assistant, Hospital Corpsman, Veterinary Surgical Tech, Eye/Cornea Recovery, Tissue Processing or 6 months of work experience at LifeNet Health in Tissue Recovery
Preferred:
- Enhanced Identification: Valid State Enhanced (or Real ID) Driver's License and/or a current passport.
- Certified LEAN Yellow Belt: Certification offered by LifeNet Health or an external accredited entity.
- Certified Scrub Technician: Current certification from an accredited entity as an Operating Room Scrub Technician, or similar
- CTBS: Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) from the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB)
- 6 months of work experience at LifeNet Health in Tissue Recovery

Salary: $22.40 to $29.87 / hour
* The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location and the candidates qualifications and prior relevant experience. The pay range for this position is $22.40 hourly (entry-level qualifications) to $29.87 hourly (experienced in this role).
* Actual compensation may be higher based on the successful candidates knowledge and relevant experience.
This position is eligible for an annual bonus once eligibility criteria are met.
