Full Job Description

Job Description:

Boston Conservatory at Berklee announces an opening for a dynamic, versatile, and creative piano faculty member. This is a nine-month (September-May), part-time, open rank appointment, beginning in January 2025. Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.

The successful candidate will be nationally and internationally recognized as a pianist, with a successful track record of college-level teaching. They will actively contribute to building an inclusive learning environment and demonstrate commitment to performing and teaching diverse repertoires. The primary responsibility of this position is to cultivate a strong studio of undergraduate and graduate piano students, teaching private lessons and leading studio classes. Additional duties, determined by the expertise and interest of the candidate and the needs of the department, may include coaching chamber music, and teaching specialized courses for pianists.

A high priority for this position is a candidate that can demonstrate strong potential for national and international recruitment, through their own varied professional performance and teaching engagements, and a proven track record for attracting and retaining private students.

As a performing arts conservatory, we acknowledge that conservatory education has historically been focused exclusively on Western classicism. Boston Conservatory at Berklee is committed to reinventing this educational model through curricular and programmatic innovation that immerses our students in a wide range of artistic and aesthetic languages, engages them in understanding performing arts as cultural documents, and ensures equitable racial, ethnic, gender, and LGBTQ+ representation at every level of our institution. Essential to this vision is a richly diverse educational environment where students engage with and celebrate various perspectives and experiences. We are committed to removing barriers that may discourage anyone from learning, teaching, and working with us. We work to eradicate injustice from our campus and ensure an inclusive learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications

A graduate-level degree in music, plus significant performance experience at an internationally recognized level is required. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a record of successful recruiting and teaching experience for students focused on careers in the performing arts.

Submission Process

Electronic applications only. Please submit application materials in PDF or Word format at berklee.edu/jobs. Applications should include a cover letter; current curriculum vitae; active links to three recordings displaying technical and creative versatility; and contact information for three professional references.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
